october 5th 2017 Snowlegend, 25 legendary years on the snow around La Meije!
Since its creation in 1993, Snowlegend guiding has become THE reference in the domain of freeride discovery. The group of guides led by André "Didi" Haase have accompanied thousands of the passionate, curious and experienced, on the magic slopes of the Meije massif. With two key words: pleasure and safety.
Snowlegend, has spent 25 years guiding the most coveted itineraries of the La Grave domain (the Enfetchores, the Y, the Pans du Rideau, the tour of La Meije) but also the wildest (the corridors of Chirouze, Rama or La Voute ...) ... 25 years exploring the most original descents of this valley rich in glaciers, couloirs and forests, away from crowds and noise to be able to propose on the day, the best itinerary according to the snow conditions, desires and level of each person.
In two and a half decades, Snowlegend International Freeride Camp has established itself as a safe bet in terms of the welcome, guiding and coaching in the high mountains. The team has welcomed more than 10,000 people from 45 different nationalities, without any notable accident. The recognised professionalism, a success story praised by hundreds of French and foreign articles and dozens of TV reports ...
Snowlegend has built its reputation on a state of mind: freeride with a smile. And you can be sure of it: La Grave is full of off-piste trails of more than 2000 meters of descent in one go. Huge runs that are taken 3, 4, 5, 6 times during the day. Besides being ideally placed, the slopes of La Meije, located on the north face are world famous for the quality of their powder.
A positive vibe widely conveyed by its creator Didi Haase, who always likes to share his passion for freeride. Whereas in the early 1990s, skiers and snowboarders didn’t mix in the resorts, the former champion of ski moguls and the kilometre, from the start dropped all barriers and grouped under the same banner skiers, surfers, snowboarders, telemarketers and recently kite-skiing enthusiasts. An obvious thing for him. An excellent teacher, he put the emphasis on the experience, encounter and exchange as soon as his company was created. Not to mention safety: all participants are equipped with shovels, probes, avalanche transceivers, harnesses and when needed helmets and avalanche airbags and leave accompanied by professional guides. For if La Meije is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful glacial domains of the Alps with fabulous panoramas, it is also formidable with serac falls and numerous crevasses.
A pioneer, Snowlegend was the first freeride independent camp in La Grave to bring people off the classic routes, alone or in a group, French or foreign. It is still so through the development of new materials and its desire to bring freeriders in love with sensation of riding powder to new territories: on the virgin slopes of Monte Rosa or the Lyngen Alps in Norway or further afield in Kamchatka.
1993 -2018: 25 seasons of freeride well filled, an anniversary that the 10 guides intend to celebrate in their own way. And also with contests of photos, videos and themed days. Festive and lively!
