Difficult itinerary

For the sporty: Lac du Pontet from La Grave, passing through typical hamlets, l’Aiguillon offers an exceptional view of the Meije massif.total length: 22kms max. altitude: 2094m min. altitude: 1450m. Departure from Chalet Snowlegend: head towards the church to join the Chemin du facteur at the summit of La Grave. Follow the GR 54 (marked red and white) towards the hamlet of Les Terrasses, taking a slightly technical path. When you reach the top, take the road to the right towards the hamlets of Ventelon and Les Hières. Stay on the high road to Les Hières, to join the 4X4 road to the well-preserved and typical hamlet of Valfroide. Take a path towards the Pic de l’Aiguillon, at 2094 m altitude. The last fifty meters are steep, and almost to the summit, it’s better to zigzag through the grass rather than stay on the path. There’s a bench to enjoy what is surely one of the best views, if not the best, of the Meije massif. You can clearly see the vallon de La Meije and the Tabuchet glacier. Retrace your steps to take the balcony path that leads to the Lac du Pontet. This peaceful spot is idyllic. Here you can take a dip or rehydrate at a refreshment station while enjoying the breathtaking scenery. We continue towards the hamlets of Cours and Pied du Col. When you come into sight of the village of Villard d’Arène, you head for it. You cross it, passing the church and the large, pleasant square.
The route is pleasant and extremely varied, with traditional hamlets, beautiful single tracks, the refreshing Lac du Pontet and sublime panoramas of the La Meije massif.
